Music education is important because it propels me to improve my instrument so I can serve my community with music. Music education also shapes my musical ideas and technique so I can assist my peers with limited access to private lessons, school band/orchestra/choir, etc. Music has improved my life in multiple ways through the awards, friends, and teaching I’ve received, and without music education, there wouldn’t be any of that. While most think of music as just playing an instrument, music education covers more topics, like history, composition, theory, conducting, art, science, math, and countless more. Music education is just as necessary as STEM and humanities classes and can change the world.
Harrison Buck
Music is important to me because it helps me express and understand my emotions. It can bring back memories and transport me to different times and places. Music also connects people, creating a sense of community. With so many genres and styles, there’s always something new to explore and enjoy.
Alyson Lee
For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about music. I have always loved performing with other people and sharing an experience through music. Music has not only been a form of expression for me but also a way for me to meet new people and communicate with others who share similar interests.
Emily Chang
The music world exists because of people who want to spread humanity, and this can be seen from all angles — from that of a performer, a listener, a teacher, and a student. I listen to music for different reasons: to be mentally stimulated, to relax, and often, to find a connection to something larger. Music brings people together, and humankind needs these connections in an increasingly tumultuous world. Some of my closest connections are from the musical world, and I believe in passing on the gift of music to all who need it.
Stephan Zhang
Even if we do not all speak the same language or understand each other through words, music can be communicated to anyone despite these differences. I love how it can be used to express joy, humor, excitement, or even sorrow. No matter what emotions we are feeling in the moment, we can connect those emotions to endless pieces of music.
Arav Amin
Music is a universal language that has the power to transcend all boundaries and differences among people. I enjoy performing music as it allows me to communicate with and inspire my audiences from all walks of life. I also hope to use my music to empower my community’s next generation of music students.
Logan Lee
Music has long been a vehicle where I can create meaningful relationships with other musicians, stories for an audience, and, most importantly, supportive spaces for younger students. Music, especially in my mentoring positions, has allowed me to see things from an educator’s perspective. These programs, where I am responsible for guiding younger students in their orchestra and solo playing, have also made me realize that most young musicians have the same potential for success but can only reach it through a supportive environment with adults who understand their backgrounds. Being surrounded by these young musicians reminds me of myself at their age, and it makes me grateful I can play a role in their musical growth, as you and so many other mentors did for me.
Gabriel Irazabal
Music is important to me because it is expressive and relaxing. Regardless of what’s going on in someone’s life, music could constantly be there for someone and help ground a person and help them collect themselves. It’s unifying; regardless of people’s differences, it is something that we could all enjoy.
Didi Stone
Music is important to me because it is how I communicate my emotions. It also teaches people important skills that are difficult to learn elsewhere. Music gives me the most meaning and happiness, which is why everyone should learn it to some degree throughout their lives.
Seun Ayadi
Music is important to me because of its versatility; there are so many different types of music genres, and there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re playing alone, in a chamber group, or with a full orchestra, you can create no shortage of sounds.
Pauline Lee
Music allows me to express things that can’t be said through words. It gives me a sense of dedication and a creative output. It has been a major part of my life since I was super young and continues to help me learn and grow!
Breanna Mayberry
Music is a big part of how I express myself, and I love how it brings together so many people from different backgrounds. Music’s capabilities are endless, and it adds more depth and meaning to our lives. Playing and working with others is also one of the most fulfilling and joyous experiences you can have.
Roen Goldberg
Music gives me an outlet to express myself. It also allows me to connect with people and make friends. It is also just fun!
Aidan Mussaleen
Music is not only a hobby but a lifestyle for me. I have invested so much time into music that I would not be the same person without it. Music has opened doors for me that I would have never guessed; without it, my life would not be the same.
Javier Becerra Barrera
Music is important to me because it’s such an expressive art form. It has the power to convey emotions and tell stories in a unique way. Plus, it simply sounds amazing, and that’s why I love it so much.
Olivia Gu
For me and many others, music is a form of personal expression. Musicians can spread this joy to people worldwide through our unified love for it. In addition, music is a universal language, connecting people of all backgrounds working to become masters of this craft. Music connects people, enables resilience, and evokes passion in both the performer and listener.
Grace Chung
As a performer, music is a conversation between me and the audience- but as a listener, music can be used to emphasize a mood or create a feeling. In the right setting, music can be the vessel that facilitates learning, healing, or both. It’s unique because, through it, musicians can record history, express humanity, and ultimately have the power to unite and bring people together.
Logan Harthcock
Music has played a significant role in my life for over four years. I’ve played in multiple ensembles, ranging from beginner to professional. I’ve started a band and trained others in music. I’ve always had a good experience with it and want to make others feel the same way I do.
Nabeel Ansari
Music is an art that transcends the barriers of language and culture. For me, it is a tool for personal expression and a means to connect people. Music also allows me to continue learning and to push myself throughout my life. It has also brought me to a community of like-minded people who constantly inspire me.
Katherine Liu
Music is a universal form of communication that transcends all language and cultural barriers, which I think is simply amazing. Being part of an experience like that changes your life – it certainly changed mine.
Jonathan Chien
Music has had a transformative impact on my life and helped me build meaningful connections with many people both within and outside my school. It has shaped me into the person I am today, and I am forever grateful I took the risk to try something new starting in middle school. I am very grateful for the incredible programs and teachers who have supported me in my musical and personal growth.
Benjamin Watson
Music is an outlet for emotions and conveys messages that words cannot. My musical experiences have made me many friends. Finally, I have learned so much discipline and patience and that hard work pays off, but sometimes, results are not immediate.
David Do Nascimento
Music is important to me because it brings us together as a community. When I’m on stage, there’s this electricity energy in the air because everyone in the orchestra is there for the same reason: to create music.
Ethan Hsu
Music is an outlet for expressing emotions and showing ourselves to the world. Music has physical and mental effects that can make you feel an extraordinary spectrum of feelings ranging from uninterrupted serenity to fury. The most important aspect of music is the flexibility of emotions, which allows me to express myself. Unlike the art of communicating with a person, music gives a unique take on communication and allows one to speak to another beyond typical means. We can connect people with music because it is a universal language.
Luke Zechmann
I enjoy the feeling of making great music collectively with other people. I also enjoy practicing and seeing myself improve. Music is a beautiful art that I can use to express my emotions so that other people can interpret and understand it from their own unique perspectives.
Linda Chang
I can express myself better through music or other art forms than words. Music is the most indirect, open language that can be perceived differently by different individuals. However, it is also a language everyone can understand; music connects us and brings people together just like diverse colors come onto a canvas when painting.
Mauricio Garcia
Music is important to me because it is a way to express my feelings and emotions. In my own experience, music has helped me through many difficult times and situations by providing me with an outlet and allowing me to express my feelings through music. Ever since I was kid, music has always been a part of my life; whether it was in church, at school, or even at home, I would constantly hear it, and eventually, at the age of 12, I grew curious and decided to pick up the piano at first, but shortly after a few months of lessons I picked up the trumpet and pursed that instead. Funny enough, it was not love at first sight, but I didn’t enjoy practicing because I lacked motivation and simply focused on other things (video games). It wasn’t until the summer of 6th grade, when my mom signed me up for a 2-week band camp program in Canyon, Texas, located on the West Texas A&M campus, that I finally decided that music was for me. The seemingly endless performances by professional musicians inspired me to become just like them. Music is important to me because it gives me purpose and a reason to keep going even when times are tough.
Liv Perry
Music is important to me because it has a special place in my heart. It allows me to express my emotions and connect with others who share the same love for music. No matter what music you love, it is in everyone’s life. Whether listening to it in the car with your family or friends, going to a concert, talking about your favorite musicians or artists, or performing for others, it brings people together. I love that about music. It’s also a way to escape, relax, and find comfort in good and challenging times. I listen to and practice music daily and cannot imagine my life without it.
Charlie Tullis
Music is an art form ideally suited for exchange. We can come together across languages, cultures, and beliefs to cherish music, which is really special. Music is a powerful way to unify the world and a place for anyone to feel safe as a creator.
Darren Cai
Music has been essential to my life ever since I was 3. The first time I heard classical music played live was when I was four years old at the NY Phil; that concert made me fall in love with music. Music has helped me get through many difficult and joyful moments in my life.
Vedanth Chakravartula
Music expresses my true and inner feelings; it’s my place to go when I feel down. It has always been my way of self-expression, a form of freedom that can be extremely difficult to find. Music gives me the power to be who I am and shields me from suppressing myself. Additionally, music connects me with others and creates a sense of community, whether through shared tastes or collective experiences at concerts. It can transport me to different times and places, evoking memories and emotions that might remain buried. Music inspires creativity and helps me focus, providing a backdrop for relaxation and productivity. It’s a universal language that transcends barriers and unites people from all walks of life. Ultimately, music is a constant companion, a source of comfort, inspiration, and joy that enriches my life in countless ways.
Ricardo Flores
Music helped me get through many challenging moments in my life. It’ll always be there for you, no matter what. I want to become a music educator and teach people about music’s positive effects on our lives. It’d be great to show people what it did for me and that there’s always a way to relieve some negative emotions, despite what they may think.
Arjun Bhardwaj
Music is important to me because it brings people together and crosses barriers. It helps me feel emotions and provides comfort during tough times. Supporting music ensures everyone can enjoy its benefits and build a stronger community.
Javin Ganewattage
Music is important to me because I can show emotion through it and open up with it. Expressing myself through music makes me happier and makes my playing better. I believe music is also a language through which people can communicate. Being able to play a style of music with someone else creates that bond that not many others have. It’s like a common ground.
Sean Rotich
Music allows me to express myself. No matter how I feel, I can always rely on music to make me feel better and bring out my creativity. It’s kind of like a language to me.
Ean Bricknell
Music is important because it helps me strive to be my best self! Every day, I practice and work to be the best I can, and doing that makes me feel happier. It is so much fun playing music with my friends AND my family! Music also being in schools makes me WANT to attend school, try harder, and get better grades!
Joel Thute
Music is important to me because it gives my mind a fresh way to think and express creativity. It breaks up my daily routine, offering a unique outlet for my thoughts and emotions. Plus, it helps me connect with others who share my passion.
Isaac Facio
Music throughout my high school career opened many doors I never knew existed. From my first time playing euphonium in 8th, I knew I wanted to continue to become someone other people look up to. With every opportunity presented to me, I stood tall and took it on(even if I didn’t know what I was doing). Music has given me friends from all over the United States because of the universal language of music. Being a musician is one of the greatest blessings I have received, and I wouldn’t change anything.
Macy Brummal
Music has given me amazing connections and relationships with people from all different walks of life. I love that music is a universal language that brings people together and creates a community for all music lovers. Being able to make music is my favorite form of art, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Lena Tran
Music is of profound importance in my life. Playing music is an emotional outlet, and I can express myself easily through it. Whenever I want to escape from the heavy demands of life, playing music offers relaxation and stress relief. Through music, I have also been able to connect and build meaningful relationships with people far and wide. Playing music isn’t just a hobby or skill but part of my identity.
Hudson Pedrotti
As an orchestral bass trombone player who has played with musicians and ensembles of varying degrees of skill, I firmly believe that the production of sound homogenizes one’s musical voice, passion, and ingenuity and is an extension of identity. The truth is that musical performance as a medium is wavering—so we must establish a uniform method to preserve the direction in which it will travel in all musical atmospheres. I believe that this course of action is simple, but we must unite as one: strong musical education programs across the globe must be instilled as a norm for all students, teachers, and administrators.
Lucca Radosavljevic
Besides the fact that I simply enjoy listening and playing music, that isn’t all that it has brought to my life. Without music, I wouldn’t have met many of my closest friends, achieved some of my greatest accomplishments, or experienced my most memorable experiences. Be it through lone practice or group performance; music offers a gateway to self-reflection and improvement. This is, of course, a multifaceted topic, but it suffices to say that music has the potential to greatly change one’s life for the better — and I, alongside countless other musicians, can attest to that.
Emma Kelner
Music has been part of my life since I was a young girl. My father forced me into piano lessons when I was 3, and I kept it up until 4th grade. I quit piano, immediately picked up the trumpet, and loved it. Music allows me to connect with other people who also love music. It lets me express myself when words fail me; my life would not be the same without it.
Miller Owen
Music is one of the most unique things in the world. It is something that all people can relate to and express their individuality. I have always struggled with who I am and what I want to be, but music brings me comfort and a sense of confidence in who I am as a musician and as a person.
Lily Clark
Music is a form of communication that everyone can appreciate, no matter where they are from or how old they are. The healing and comfort music provides will forever change my life. Music is a reflection of life and gives us the ability to express things that nothing else can. It will forever be a part of my life, and I love nothing more than the ability to share it with others.
David Rankin
Music is important to me because I’m unsure what to do without it. Music has always been a big part of my life, even before I started playing viola. It has always made me feel happy, peaceful, and excited, and it distracts me from things such as stress from school. Another reason that music is important to me is that everybody likes music, and it is something that everyone can relate to. Not everybody likes the same kind of music, but everyone enjoys it, allowing me to bond with others over our shared love of music.
Peter Sawchuk
Music began as a curiosity for me but later became a passion. It allowed me to express myself and feel emotions created by people who lived, in some cases, hundreds of years ago in countries that no longer exist. Music is the universal language, without which my life would be much less fulfilling. Beyond personal and emotional fulfillment, taking music lessons has been shown to correlate with stronger academic performance. I cannot stress enough the need for quality music education.
Lenel Elison Gomintong
Music speaks where words can’t; it is a universal language that transcends language barriers, connecting people and cultures. Through music, I’ve formed countless friendships and connections I could never have imagined. Music provides an outlet for self-expression, from the happiest moments in life to its lowest points.
Rafael Bustamante
Music has become a big part of my life. It has brought me into an amazing community of people who all share my passion for music. It has also helped me express myself. Music has always brought me joy and has shaped me into the person I am now.
Rishika Sen
Music has played a massive role in my life from a young age. I have played the piano for 11 years, been singing for five years, and played the cello for two years. Music is a way to express myself and a hobby I enjoy. It also has a special way of connecting people.
Harshini Gowni
Music is important because it gives me a community and a place to express my passion and commitment to creating something beautiful. Music has given me many friends and experiences to remember, such as my first time playing in an orchestra or my first competition. It continues to provide me opportunities to grow and improve and has pushed me to work harder. It continues to teach me important life skills while providing me with a safe space to keep growing. This is why music is important to me.
Peyton Shannon
Music is important to me because it continuously pushes me to strive for better. Music has been the place where I have met my best friends and grown into who I am today. Participating in music has helped me learn to express myself, take initiative, and gain extreme leadership skills. Being in music has also made me realize my passion for music and given me something to pursue as a career.
